I honestly think it has been a good thing here, for the most part. A lot of the state government's best accomplishments the last 30 years have been due to outside the box thinking by collections of people across the political and regional spectrum because they basically have to. And while not always pretty or smooth, they generally find ways to fix things that have to be fixed.
Local governments are usually run much better and actually address the need of their people mainly because they don’t get paid much of anything. They all have regular jobs too and their constituents’ issues are also their issues, unlike the career politicians in Washington that only live in their districts a few months out of the year. Local politicians (outside the mayors in big cities) are generally doing the jobs because they care a whilr lot more. They also get things done you can actually see and things that have an impact on your day to day life. They live up to campaign promises more too and don’t just make empty promises to get your vote, because if they don’t, they see those people who voted for them every day and still have to do business with them in the community. That’s not to say there aren’t corrupt people in local government but it’s not nearly as bad
