re: Bobby Bowden started head coaching in 1959. From 1959-2020 where does he rank all time.

I already posted my ranking using 1959-present. But now I’ll go with since the start of the AP poll (1936-Present) going by what coaches did at major programs only and not at what we refer to as FCS now.

You could dump Paterno and list is fine. Bowden is a Top 10 all time great. Your list is FULL of true Blue Blood schools. Coach Bowden went to a school on the verge of total collapse. Erector Set stadium holding about 35K in capacity. FSU is the only school to start playing Division 1 football since World War II and win a National Championship. The stadium is now a grand cathedral as good as many Blue Bloods and Better than most of the rest. It is forever the house that “Bobby Built”.
He energized football in the state of Florida. He lead UF to hire Charley Pell and UM hiring Schnellenberger. Bitter enemies on the field, but he roamed the State of Florida in conjunction with Pell and Schnellenberger promoting the rivalries and college football in general. They worked together off the field that led to the State of Florida being the DOMINANT power it is and was in college football.
