re: Bobby Bowden started head coaching in 1959. From 1959-2020 where does he rank all time.

He gets full credit for the schedule when they were Independent.Not so much for admittedly dodging the SEC and taking an easier path to a NC by joining the ACC.I believe they went 4 years w/out losing conference game.

There's no way that happens in the SEC

In his first national title season and second season in the ACC (1993), his three non conference games were #3 Miami, @ #2 Notre Dame and @ #7 Florida

The SEC was nowhere near as good in the 90s as it is now. For most of the decade it was Tennessee, Florida, and one, maybe two teams from the West, with the rest of the league being average to below average. Bowden dominated from the late 80s through the 90s, so he wasn’t dodging anything when he still played Florida and Miami every year
