That’s not how it works.

Texas works by getting Texas alums or puppets into positions of power and then working to benefit just Texas.

They didn’t buy off the NCAA infractions committee, they leveraged connections to get an alum installed as head of the committee, then went to work on rivals.

They didn’t just throw their weight around the B12, they installed their own sycophants as the commissioner and positions of power, and then played stupid when the conference organization bent the field to their benefit.

So I realize that there’s a ton of baggage between Texas and aTm, but I think you guys need to take a step back and think about why they had all of that leverage over you.

The SWC consisted of 8 Texas schools plus Arkansas. When Arkansas left, the entire conference was made up of Texas schools. When the Big 12 was formed, 4 of the schools (a third of the conference) were in Texas. Currently, 4 of the conference’s 10 schools are in Texas.

So for 100 years, Texas has been in conferences made up of anywhere from 33% to 100% Texas schools. For most of that time, they have been the most successful of those Texas programs, as well as the most successful overall in those conferences.

If/when they join the SEC, this dynamic completely changes. Texas schools would account for 2/16 programs. They can’t strong arm the conference for votes by pulling strings in the state legislature. You guys are remembering their 100+ year history of having control of their conferences, but you’re forgetting how control over their state enabled that.

On top of that, whatever Texas was to the SWC and Big 12, the 8 charter members are to the SEC. And Texas is coming into a league that has won 11 of the last 15 national football championships, as a mediocre program.

They very well may expect the conference to bow down to them. But that should just make it more enjoyable for Aggies when the conference doesn’t bend to their will. They just don’t have the same leverage here that they had in the SWC and Big 12.
