There are very few negatives to Harsin IMO. Of course he’s a gamble, but there are only handful of coaching candidates every year that are not.

IMO, the hire felt underwhelming by Auburn's standards. Might just be because it isn't the flashy hire. Those "flashy" hires were probably more risky though.

Two years ago Harsin's name was through around towards the end of our search, not that there was serious interest from either side but I didn't like the idea of the hire in the moment. Having said that, I wasn't happy about the Pittman hire either.

I’m thrilled Auburn didn’t hire a guy like Muschamp or Lashlee or Drinkwitz or somebody like that just because they have coached in Auburn before. There are a lot of good coaches out there and it’s dumb to assume they won’t do well elsewhere because of geography

Don't disagree with any of that

Drinkwitz is one of the better hired due to recruiting lights out at Missouri. His coaching ability is by far better than expected with a roster of average * rating that is ranked 13 out of 14 in the SEC. He has also changed the culture at Missouri. Some of the fans on here were saying he wasn't worth 4 Million dollars a year for being a HC for 1 year at Appalachian State. South Carolina fans really wanted him but Muschamp wasn't getting fired to get him. Most fans said he was a year away to be a HC at a much bigger school. Like I said Harsin wasn't even close to being like Drinkwitz. If Missouri had hired Harsin it would set Missouri back many years because he wasn't a good recruiter. Drinkwitz is a much better hired for Missouri because of his recruiting ability. Harsin may do okay at Auburn because it is Auburn! Not because he is the better HC. Auburn have been recruiting in the top 15 for a long time! Only last year was a bad one because Gus knew it was time for him to pack his bags. Didn't even bother to recruit like the other years. COVID might have played a huge part of getting Gus fired. Same with some other HCs. No one really know what would have happened if it wasn't for COVID-19.
