Bertman even says it. State put an emphasis on baseball and Bertman went to LSU brass and said that it could be done in Baton Rouge as well.

That 1986 stadium build in Starkville was the first time an SEC school ever spent serious money on baseball.

LSU and Bertman perfected what Polk was attempting at MSU. MSU's problem was that in the 2000s, they were trying to do the same thing that worked in the 80s and South Carolina and Florida passed them. Cohen came in and modernized the program and Vanderbilt began to win with their unique model. Lemonis was brought in to win the natty. He did it in his second full season.
