I'm an Auburn fan so I think both LSU and Alabama fans can get fuct so I have no dog in this fight. Burrow shows the rare ability to understand a defender's leverage and throw the receiver open even though they are covered. That what separates that best NFL QBs from the average ones. That's what made Manning so great. I saw Burrow make those throw in college and he progressed further in the NFL. I haven't seen Mac make those same type of throws.

I don’t think Mac Jones has a type of throw he can’t make. That is not what differentiates him from Joe Burrow. The differentiator is Burrow’s build and ability to make plays when the pocket breaks down.

I’m a homer but you gotta be real about the fact that Mac Jones basically only ever got touched if someone had a mental mistake on blocking assignments. He can make any throw you need him to make but he almost always got all the time he needed to confidently read a defense and let his A+ WRs get open deep. 2020 Alabama’s run game was simply much stronger than 2019 LSU. ‘19 LSU ran well enough to punish team for focusing on the pass but I don’t think they had as many games w/ 5+ rushing TDs.

LSU’s offensive strategy in a nutshell was:

1) Put Joey in the gun

2) Release all 5 eligible receivers into routes (maybe the tailback or TE chips a rusher before releasing)

3) Joey’s body eats the unblocked man

4) Ball is out though and receiver runs long time.

So, yeah, Burrow was asked to do a ton more...the whole fact he was built like a Mack truck was a designed feature of the offense. Mac Jones would’ve gotten killed in that offense. In fact, our favorite thing to do was to run max protect (sometimes with a 6th OL who could’ve been a starter too) and play action off it for chunk plays.

Both may be good pros. Hell, Burrow already had one major injury...he’s probably gonna learn to take less hits in the NFL if he wants to survive. We’ll see on that front.
