My guess is he was looking for a guy with AU ties and Bobo may have recommended him since they had worked together at UGa and SC. Mason had coached against him and signed off on the hire.
After Rocker bolted I guess he let Mason recommend someone, which was apparently Eason.
Just speculation, obviously, but it makes me feel better
