It's one thing to tell the NCAA to frick off when you're accused of something relatively benign like giving players some money, but to try to dodge responsibility for the things that LSU is accused of would be terrible optics (in addition to being ineffective).
LSU won't torpedo its reputation as a university to avoid sanctions.

Exactly. No matter what the outcome of the investigation is there will still be a lot of bad pr.
