2012 - OSU was ineligible. Bama wins
2011 - Okie St. lost a game giving Bama a shot
2017 - Didn't win their division but OSU (among others) screwed the pooch

It's the same for almost every team who has won a title. You need luck to win often. Then once you get the opportunity it's what you do with it
