The race is basically over in Alabama.

My family went to college with "Tubbs" as everyone called him. He played football for the Muleriders.

I have never even really liked him, but for him to win a senate seat in Alabama, after defeating a long entrenched native senator in Sessions in the primaries is a pretty remarkable feat.

For all he's done, I will always remember him for the Texas Tech story of him leaving mid recruiting dinner to take the Cincy job. That dude really hated Lubbock. I think he called it a nuclear test site or something to that effect.

Tubbs might be a lousy Senator, or a good one, but he had great timing and strategy in deciding when and where to run.

He picked a deep, deep Red state where he could get away with a campaign promise of "I like Trump." and nothing else. His primary foe, Sessions, had been a popular Senator but after that feud with Trump was pretty well dead as a politician. His general election opponent was a Democrat who had barely managed to defeat a creepy pedophile who looked like a nightmare Howdy Doody the last time around. He picked his spot so well Tubbs could get away with refusing to debate.

The only politician with better timing in recent memory would be Barack Obama. Obama's political history is basically him waiting for a politician to show weakness and then taking them on.

I'm not saying Tubbs will make it to the White House, but he clearly is a guy who knows how to pick his spots and play the odds.

Agreed. There are races that are very easily wins, and this was one of them.

Sessions was never going to be a republican senator again after catching Trump's disapproval with the Russia hoax recusal.

Anyone with a big name who was a republican and got through the primaries without being a total disaster was going to win that seat. From what I've seen of Tubberville, he kind of seems sleazy, as most football coaches generally are. Guess He'll fit right into Washington.
