Texas is top five in the nation of producing division one talent each year. Primarily focused or not, it is not smart to just avoid it.

Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Louisiana, Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas is historically where we get our recruits from.

We have recruited Georgia and found some success but I seriously doubt we will ever make a dent in Georgia or the Southeast. Too many powerhouse power five teams that have a lot of control in those areas. I give props for Sam for being aggressive but it will take many years and a change in reputation for things to go our way. Arkansas is viewed as trash and not a winner. So many of these recruits won't bother visiting here because they see better options.

For a school to recruit the Southeast and nationwide, it needs a strong reputation in winning tradition. Alabama is a very good example of this. They get recruits in 25-27 states. We don't have that luxury and haven't done so in 30 years.

Sam has recruited Oklahoma more than the previous coaches and is taking advantage as Oklahoma recruits Texas much more. Most of the other recruits come from the seven states that I mentioned before.

Can Sam snag some big time players from other states? Yes but it is very unlikely right now. He isn't spending a lot of time in some areas of the country that he knows has little chance of coming here. His main focus will still will be areas closer to home that he knows he will have a better chance of landing.

We have to win with what we have and we will. Continue to build our reputation up where we are viewed as a strong presence in the SEC.

When that happens then it will be much easier getting recruits thousands of miles from home.

Recently offered Brett Norfleet, a DE out of STL ranked #16 in the 2023 class. Brett is pretty excited about it.
