I know this because Alabama was undefeated in 1994 going into the SECCG, and would've played for the Coaches Poll Championship had they beat UF. Miami would've split the NC with Penn St. had they beat Nebraska.

Miami's only chance to win the national title in 1994 was for them to beat Nebraska and for Penn State to lose in the Rose Bowl. Alabama had a shot at a split because we were undefeated and ranked #3 going into the SEC Championship Game. If we go on to defeat Florida and Nebraska and if #2 Penn State takes care of business in the Rose Bowl, the chances of a split are very high.

This beat down was the clear crack in the dam of the aura of “The U” at the time. It was weird that the 30 For 30 just kind of breezed over it. That game was the metaphorical end of the Schnellenberger/Johnson/Erickson dynasty run, with their results falling off quickly over the next 3 seasons.

1994 would've been a helluva playoff: Florida, Nebraska, Penn State and Bama
