Well, when they opt out, they only get $150,000 for this year from what I understand. Still, 90%^ of the public would take "only" $150k all day every day!

Sure, but the NFL minimum for a player with one year of experience 2020 is $675,000. They're getting less than 1/4 of what a second year guy that barely made the roster will get. Also, while they get to count the year towards becoming a free agent, they don't get the year credited to a contract - meaning that if they have a back loaded deal that would pay a lot next season they won't get it. Guys that opt out get their 2020 contract salary in 2021.
Also, guys like Warmack and Smith were for different reasons hanging on to their careers by a thread. Odds are good by sitting out 2020, they've both played their last down of NFL football.

I get the sentiment that says the minimum wage grocery clerk has to work, you should go to work too - and I don't disagree in spirit - but if these guys are willing to forego the amount of money that's in play and very likely for some their entire careers then I don't see how you can read much more into it than they're really that scared of the virus.
