Was Lester Maddox the South's Most Racist Governor?

Maddox, Georgia's 75th governor during the civil rights era, wouldn't allow blacks into his resturant, which is now a part of Georgia Tech's campus. Even threatened them with pickax handles.

Lester Garfield Maddox Sr. (September 30, 1915 – June 25, 2003) was an American politician who served as the 75th Governor of the U.S. state of Georgia from 1967 to 1971. A populist Democrat, Maddox came to prominence as a staunch segregationist[1] when he refused to serve black customers in his Atlanta restaurant, in violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

quote:

Maddox said that he would close his restaurant rather than serve African Americans. An initial group of black demonstrators came to the restaurant but did not enter when Maddox informed them that he had a large number of black employees. In April 1964, more African Americans attempted to enter the restaurant. Maddox confronted the group with a bare pickaxe handle.

So you wanna dismiss the Metro Atl Area as a place for the SEC Offices because GA elected a Racist Governor that served 1 term, until 1971, approaching 50 yrs ago

Maybe you're right, but give the Metro Atl Area time, we've been snatching down confederate shite left and right

An interesting story hit today, in Paulding County, residents are asking that Confederate Ave be renamed

If the a-hole confederates can't keep a street name in Paulding County then it really is over, you guys are quickly going from lost cause to just LOST
