Wasn’t the War Eagle used by the Union against the Confederates?
The only known, documented, eagle from the WBTS was "Old Abe," a bald eagle that was the mascot of the 8th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment.

Old Abe is memorialized on the Wisconsin Memorial at Vicksburg, and on the Battle of Atlanta Cyclorama.

Old Abe is said to be the inspiration for the Case Corporation logo, as well as the 101st Airborne eagle head.

Auburn's War Eagle is a myth that has survived and is a great story, but there is no documented proof of it. The War Eagle cry really probably came about sometime in the mid 1900s. No one is really 100% sure, but most research places it then.
