That's not what they were upset about. They were upset about the epic disaster pet project of Ray Bowen's "Vision 2020".
The triumvirate of stupid (Ray Bowen, Malon Sutherland, Wally Groff) saw the increase in profile under U.S. News as a mandate to implement their shitty pet projects (such as Corps Block Seating, which the Commandant was vehemently opposed to until he was replaced).

Right, not many SEC people know that aggy’s 2000-member corps of cadets holds the rest of the school hostage.
