With the benefit of hindsight, Petrino was just too big of an a-hole to have sustained success, anywhere.
The stories I've heard over the years from people boil down to this:
1. He's a dick to his players. At first, that yields results. As a few years go by, those who are still in the system start talking openly to recruits about what an a-hole he is, and it hurts recruiting, as has been shown everywhere he's ever been.
2. He's an a-hole to assistants, staff, all the way down to maintenance people at the facilities he works in. Nobody likes him, so he can't sustain any type of decent staff. His assistants took a top 10 Arkansas team and lost to La Monroe.
