Spurrier did receive consideration, but he was kind of an unknown quantity at that point. Seems that Archer was for LSU what Coker was for Miami; make an easy, lazy hire from within to keep things going and it just doesn't work

If hired Spurrier would have turned LSU around but would have eventually left for Florida where he played.
