I find myself voting Republican 95% of the time since Ronald Reagan because while the GOP has moved toward the right end of the spectrum, the Dems have swung SO far left as to be untenable for most middle class Americans.

I find myself doing the opposite because in my view the Republican party has swung...maybe not too far right, but they've gone to something I find hard to support. A callousness towards the less fortunate while espousing Christian beliefs. That feeling has been solidified the past few years with its full throated support for someone I find wholly unqualified to be president. And that feeling has nothing to do with policy, and everything to do with his ignorance of history, disrespect for the norms of the office, his lack of intellectual curiosity, and the way he speaks about people that disagree with him.

When Bernie Sanders and AOC are some of the mainstream faces of your party

Bernie isn't a Democrat. He only becomes one when he wants to run for President, which is a big reason why he lost in 2016, and will lose again this year. And AOC is finishing her first term in the House. A freshman Representative is only the face of the party in the right wing bubble that makes her one. I can rattle off dozens of people that more reflect the face of the party.

quote:

government giveaways to illegal aliens, felons, and professional societal parasites, how does anyone that is a middle class working family person vote for them?

It's easy for me because I recognize, despite my best efforts, just how close I am to being in need of social assistance. The loss of a job in a declining economy, a medical emergency that maxes out my health insurance coverage, a natural catastrophe, etc. I have retirement savings, and rainy day funds to tap into, but I also recognize so many people in this country don't have that luxury. I also don't begrudge someone else's plight, and I think the wealthy are bilking our governmental system far more than the poor and destitute are.

Both ends are milking and bilking the system and doing it on the backs of the middle class who get no relief and we’re damn sick and tired of it!
