You didn't go to the right places then. The lake in northern Indiana has really great beaches and is 45 mins - 1 hour from downtown Chicago. However, we enjoyed Lake Michigan's beaches in Wisconsin even better. In fact the state park campground we stayed at in Wisky is in our top 5 places we've ever stayed.

Of course, you're a city boy and I wouldn't expect you to really appreciate outdoor spaces. If you did, you wouldn't live where you do. Some people love central park as an outdoor space. But as the old saying goes, if all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail...

I mean it’s not my first choice of something to swim in, but there are miles of beach volleyball courts set up and you can drink/chill and have a pretty good time a short distance from where I live. It’s a different “vibe” than a SC beach (frick myrtle btw) but it’s still fun as hell.
