For now, I think it's a B plus, I don't know that much the App St guys but they look solid.

Also a comment, I have not said this yet but I like Nerd Coaches and I think Coach Drink is one, these are guys that are not the brut football Hollar guys, or the by the book Pinkel's types, but the numbers guys, like the Lou Holtz's. These guys can motivate apples to beat oranges and they have a math angle on every play.

B to B+ sounds about right to me. I loved the Luper hire especially considering he’ll be mostly responsible for the recruiting trail. Lots of guys with coordinator experience.

Not blown away by the OL hire which I was hoping to be, but we shall see

JQ I am with you, but I like the O line hire and think Johnson is solid.

It looks to me that Coach Drink wants quality coaches that have the ability to recruit, and I think he sat on the Johnson hire waiting for the right guy and he took him.

I have a feeling with leach going to Mississippi St is going to change the type of players Leach brings in and the Johnson hire likely comes with a little black book of names.

He is good because he teaches a lot of run blocking. I am wondering why it took a long time to hired him? I think it was due to the OL coach was waiting to see if the next head coach would be a good fit for him and it turned out it was not. So Drinkwitz hired him. Then why OL dod not do so well this past year? Remember MSU had players sit out for at lease 8 games of their choice of games to sit out. They did also had some injuries. So overall they were juggling the OL around. That hurt them overall. The first year was great! Then How did they do against Arkansas? Very well compare to Missouri in the last 2 years. I am happy to have him over Davis. The timing was both were taken early and MSU was not likely going to anywhere until head coach got fired a couple days after the bowl game. UGA got Ole Miss and Arkansas got Missouri. MSU OL was not available that time.

True lefty I just read this, about Johnson, he was also the strength and conditioning assistant coach

"Johnson, 38, played along the O-line at Ole Miss from 2001-04 then became a second-round choice of the Minnesota Vikings in 2005. He spent four years with the Vikings and later played with Oakland and Tampa Bay. He reunited with his college coach David Cutcliffe at Duke in 2011, joining the staff as strength and conditioning assistant, then climbed the ranks to quality control coach from 2013-15 before a promotion to O-line coach in 2016. After two years in that role he returned to his home state as part of Moorhead's first Mississippi State staff."

LINK

I am thinking that each coach may be personally responsible for the condititing of their players on Drink's staff.

Mississippi State didn't fire their head coach until Jan. 3. I have no idea who he previously interviewed but Johnson fell in his lap.

Retaining Haley was one of his better choices. I agree about Luper and Harbison.
