I never said there was any such criteria, and I never said it wans't possible. I said it's never happened and I suspect the committee would ideally like to avoid it.

Nowhere in their criteria does it say you have to win your conference either but they've clearly shown that they take that into account, considering 90% of all playoff teams have done so.
