College football has been dying for a long time now. Just look at the huge disparity of talent in the sport. I'm starting to wonder if this so-called "arm's race" since Saban arrived has led to college football's downfall. Just look at the parity in the sport in 2007 compared to what it is now.

The top programs are already paying players, it’s just from the shadows. All this new rule would do is give boosters the opportunity to set up the new batch of recruits with autograph gigs, commercials and endorsements out in the open.
Leonard Fournette would have been set up with hundreds of thousands of dollars in guaranteed opportunities before he even graduated high school.
