My Observations of the UK Game

First, a hard fought game by both sides..the mistakes made were effort mistakes....no one slacked off. Mullen has gotten the team to understand that effort is needed every play.
UK gouged us in the first half throwing and running. We missed tackles that cost us. But as I watched the game from the friendly confines of family room sofa I could see that we were keeping the game close and that is what we needed.
The broadcast crew was awful, at point calling a UK player wearing # 21 Trey Dean??? WTF? During pregame at studio Mark Jones predicted a UK win...Jones is not a UF fan trust me.
As usual, flags were flying against us by the zebras, but they did even out in second half when UK got sloppy and had some back breakers too. The one TD play called back for man downfield was bogus...broadcast crew had no clue about the actual rule...pointing out the Gator WR blocking as pass was thrown. Idiots didn't realize that it is legal to do so if the pass is thrown to someone at the line of scrimmage or real close and I think replay got it wrong. Jefferson was right at the line when he caught the pass and was something rarely called.
The game itself showed how inept we are at running the ball. It has to be corrected. You cannot just keep throwing the ball...you will lose that game normally. Too many bad things can happen, sacks, holding calls, picks etc etc. I know Mullen is probably frustrated as hell with our lack of a run game....he knows to win we must run and stop the run.
We HAVE to improve our punt returns or lack thereof. It made my blood pressure soar when we let a UK punt roll down to the 8 yd line. We lost 20 + yds of field position. And this occurred when Trask was coming in for his first series, handcuffing the team. We ended up with our only punt of the night after picking 2 critical first downs and flipped the field. You cant expect a team to march 92 yds downfield.
I noticed the pass blocking improved in the fourth qt as Im sure Hevesy was chewing their butts out on the sidelines. UK knew we had to throw and yet we kept Trask upright.
The best thing I noticed is the same relentless effort late in the game. There is no doubt that Mullen is the answer...teams play like their coaches. Grantham made adjustments and we just worn them out in the 4th qt. No small feat was this win...they wanted it badly and their front seven on defense is pretty damn good. We usually start out slow and then take over games late...it is maddening at times...but as long we win baby.

This fricking team is tough as nails. That’s what I observed.

We have figured out how to win.
But seriously. Our run blocking is the worst I've seen in a long time here. I mean we can not make a hole. Also does Perine seem off somewhat? He seems a step slower than last year

Everyone has noticed that Perine isn't the same. I want to see Pierce and Clement used. Davis is having problems also and we need a bigger back ready to crash the middle.
The good news is that we have 2 games in the Swamp to get OL more snaps....then a third game against AU in the Swamp. AU has good defense but has some issues on offense. Baby Nix is still on the job training.

Was something up with Copeland did not see him much at all last night

He may be blocking well and that can result in fewer snaps and we have a lot of WRs ahead of him.

Auburn we match up well despite what West posters think. Nix is not a great QB yet. Their Oline doesnt run block well either so we can win the LOS vs them on defense. That game will be very low scoring. 17-13 type of game. I think we can win it though. Think a few big plays will do it.

Perine seems slow. We need to give some of the other backs a chance . We need some kind of change in the running game . Either different RBs , give the ball to the WRs more in motion or get the QB to roll out of the pocket . Mullen has been disappointing so far for a QB guru who can run an offense.

Uh, wut?? Franks had his best year under Mullen and did fairly well last night minus the int. Trask comes off the bench and moves the team down field for the comeback.

Seriously bizarre. Neither of the starting QBs have fit his style of play.
People just don't realize what this team will look like when it's:
Emory Jones (Starter)
Anthony Richardson (Backup)
Carlos Del Rio (Backup)
Goddamn that's going to be an offense that we're going to love watching.
He turned Franks from being hot dog shite to at least being serviceable and he turned a two-star career backup into "come from behind on the road missing Kadarius Toney" winner.
Dude knows what he's doing with QBs, just doesn't have a guy who actually fits his system and isn't an underclassman.

Agree. Mullen has done very well making Franks everything he can be.
I do wonder why Jones is taking so long to come of age. Kid is so physically gifted.

Still gaining confidence of himself within the system i guess. He looked rushed vs UTM like the game hasnt slowed down for him yet
