If I am a guy from Jersey, Boston, Seattle, Montana, Virginia - why am I interested in this playoff again? The team I root for has basically no chance to make the playoff, and if they do once in a blue moon, they will probably get annihilated in the first playoff game.

But it has just about always been like that for most of the people living in those cities/states. When was the last time the University of Virginia or even Virginia Tech were in a major bowl game? You have to go back almost a decade to find the last time a team from Virginia made it to a NY6 bowl or higher.

Here's the inconvenient truth of it all, college football is fast becoming a regional sport. Within the next 20 years, if something doesn't change, college football will be just like college baseball. Only southern teams and the occasional outlier from the Midwest (i.e. Ohio State) or Pacific region (i.e. USC) will be in the championship picture year in and year out.
