The general lack of football knowledge on this board is sometimes frightening.

Sorry to crap on your favorite play coach... Is this run up the middle play that never works just a set up for the new version of the wirly bird and other secret plays that will be unleashed on down the road? Please for my sanity show me how calling this play over and over when it's not working is basic football 101 and displays my lack of football knowledge.

Thanks for taking my call and I'll hang up and listen!

I love this board and all of our fans, we have beaten two good teams with a true freshman qb. We will get better as the season goes on, but the schedule will also get tougher. If this turns out to be a 10 win season I will be ecstatic.

It is exactly a setup play and for the most part it functions as it should.

You thinking that play doesn't work is what displays your lack of football knowledge.

The inside zone play is designed to suck in linebackers and safeties. When using similar formations and personnel, it allows an offense to have a quick hitting play that allows depth of plays to piggyback. When running optimally, which we aren't doing right now, sweeps and play action plays typically have less defenders in there immediate areas due to defenses having to provide extra support to stopping the inside zone.

Our right interior line play right now is bad. In order to run Gus' offense successfully, the interior offensive linemen have to be capable of maintaining a 1v1 block to allow the H-back to get to the gap backer.

Years of piss poor OL recruiting and development have significantly hindered what we can do in Gus' offense. I'm beyond frustrated by the level of talent that we have to work with and I do not seem much hope for improvement until we make a big change in that department. What I fear is that we are going to grab Ryan Pugh from Troy after this year or next and to be honest, he needs another 5-7 years before he is ready.

I'd like for us to make a run at Bill Bedenbaugh or Greg Frey, or maybe even Dwayne Ledford.
