Here is a list of things I noticed during the game.
Miamuh wanted this game 10 X more than us and that's why I hate playing them....they are small potatoes and we are the rich farmers with 15,000 acres of land.
OL played ok but will hopefully get better by UK. We only managed paltry numbers of rushing yds....but I will credit the canes defense. Our leading receiver was Perine...the canes covered Jefferson like a blanket.
In the second half we were our own worse enemy with way too many flags. Some of the PI and 1 sideline hit were pure bullshite. Mullen almost blew a fuse on the sideline call.
Our special teams were pretty good. Townsend is a weapon and flips the field a lot.
# 51 Ventral Miller at OLB had a very good game once we had him covering TE and backs on pass routes...also blew up the QB and tackled better than 95% of our defense.
# 58 Greenard was all over the QB along with Zuniga, Moon and others.
We had a lot of minor injuries that kept us short on depth. Slaton returning along with safety Stewart will help.
The main thing is we are 1-0 and can improve.

Stewart is the best safety and it shows every time he isnt on the field. Feel like he has to be the starter going forward. Our defense just seems much better with him on the field.

I just rewatched the game - a few things
1. Marco Wilson had a really bad day. Lost a lot of battles on the edge getting blocked by the Miami WR and RBs. Also got flagged twice for PI including the really bad one late. Hopefully he plays better moving forward.
2. Perine actually looked good on limited touches. He ran well when given the opportunity. The problem was the turnovers. It prevented the offense from ever getting into a rhythm early and UF just never recovered and only ended up running 54 plays.
3. Penalties were KILLER. Miami had 5 first downs that I counted at critical moments from UF penalties.
4. Miami was really creative getting that awesome TE the ball, especially early. They did a lot of motion to get big guys like TE and RB out blocking for those swing passes and it was tough for the corners to win those battles.
5. Franks first INT was really bad. Had he made a good pass there UF probably scores. Feel like I used to type that every game last year.
6. Miami's TD pass was a bit lucky, the ball was tipped but still got to the TE. #29 for Florida missed a LOT of tackles. I'm watching now. He missed 3 in the first half.
7. The defensive line was SOLID. Marlon Dunlap jr. looked like a decent back up. Zuniga, Greenard, Moon, Campbell, Shuler, and Ancrum all played well.
8. Amari Burney looked lost most of the game. Ended up with only 2 tackles.

That's why Ventral Miller was so damn important in the game 2 nights ago, once he shifted over to covering TE/RBs out of the backfield...it shut down that part of the offense which was helping their young QB.
I saw so many penalties not called on the canes it was sick and easy for an seeing eye dog to spot. On one long pass play on a short dump off and went down the right sideline Marco almost had his jersey ripped off. He was in the position to stop the run short.
Our OL needs help...Bleich and Delance were handled by miamuhs defense. The good news is that Stone Forsthye held his own at the all important LOT spot...and Heggie was adequate at guard. We have three weeks before UK and we must be better on the right side.
The truth is we have the ability to be much better with improvement on the OL. Beat UK and then UT comes to the Swamp. Both UK and UT will be hard fought and I love the way our team is conditioned to win in the fourth qt.
