Is it? One of the big reasons Miles got axed was his lack of progress with Bama. As I have pointed out in this thread (not that it needed to be) they are also a major obstacle in making it to the post season. Bama is a must win for Auburn every year, not just because of the rivalry, but because without beating them, you are more than likely to lose the tie breaker as they only get at most 1 SEC loss a year.
