It’s amazing the number of people that don’t realize that football was started at colleges for fun and morphed into it’s own sport. Pro football use to be weird as it was a college game.
It was essentially rugby where you stop the ball and call a play. My favorite is that story how one day someone threw the ball and they had to stop the game and pull out the rule book. There was nothing forbidding it but no one ever thought to try.
