Prior to this years draft Saban had 29 first rounders at Alabama. 24 of them are still in the NFL. That is pretty damn incredible.

Did not say otherwise. He can recruit.

Right, but so can Gus Malzhan.

Gus consistently brings in top 10 talent, he should have his team consistently finish in the top 10 with that talent. AND he should be able to put at least a few of those players into the 1-2nd round of the draft on a regular basis.

BUT he's just not winning enough and he still has a deficiency in the player development and roster management areas while he pulls a top 10 salary.

That is why the recruiting rankings are misleading. Gus has recruited well at times, but has lacked at certain positions. On Offense it has be QB and OL and lately RB. The OL development has been a big issue at times. On Defense the issue has been LBs. Those have bitten him on the butt. With Saban he has signed 10 LBs in a class at times that are all highly ranked. He will put some weight on them and moved them to other position. Gus pulls in a top 10 salary because of the timing of his success. AU was actually smart to lock in that contract at the time, because otherwise they would end up with hiring a fruit of the month type coach in January. Gus has at least proven he can get them there.
