I know they were offered at least 10 episodes for this seasonn, and I heard HBO offered to fund another 10 episode season after that but I'm not 100%

Apparently D&D decided years ago the story "should be about 73 hours or 73 episodes" and basically refused to budge from that. Assholes

Part of me thinks that they just got writer's fatigue. When you've been writing something for a long time, it can become bland and you just don't really have the inspiration for it like you once did. They just really wanted to go and do some other projects, and at some point you can't really blame them.

Doing a show for this long, same themes, different seasons, super high standards set early by the show and an author...I'm going to be pretty blunt: Seems pretty hard to work with and is kind of combative.

You can tell they had a falling out, and d&d having a huge project on the horizon (Star Wars) decided to mail it in.

However, I think they would be doing the entire world a service if they would have just turned the writing over to someone else. You don't get Star Wars in one year, or even six months, that's a super long process so they've known for a while.

GoT literally prints money and they might have just murdered the franchise, unless Season 8 is literally redone -- and I mean like head to toe.

Honestly I'm just glad it's coming to an end.

If D&D didn’t wanna commit to see things through in a reasonable way, they should have jumped ship after season 6 and let someone else finish the last 2-4 seasons out. Instead they had to tank themselves out of the job but the worst writing decisions ever and the most moronic after the episode excuses and armchair psychology known to man.

Should we have really expected much different though after XMen Origins? They skated by on GRRM adaptations and him writing an episode here and there.
