Do you even Robert Gates, bro? (2002-2006) He fired Wally Groff and R.C. Slocum and put a halt to Ray Bowen's ridiculous "Vision 2020" Ponzi Scheme.

Gates was the last A&M President who was truly and completely in charge of the main campus without outside meddling. Even Rick Perry didn't cross him when he was the Governor.

Yes, Gates was the best President A&M has ever had, but the overall leadership? It has always been inexplicably terrible. I guess Aggies are just too busy to worry about it, and just throw money at the problem. Finally, we saw some claws come out after the UCLA de-pants-ing.
