The Vatican's treasurer has been sentenced to 10-14 years in prison for sex abuse. This guy was the Pope's closest advisor.

He was found guilty of five charges, one for penetration of a child under 16 and four of indecent assault involving a child under 16… During the case, Mark Gibson SC, acting for the Crown, said Pell was still wearing his formal church robes when he caught two boys aged 12 and 13 drinking sacred wine in the priest’s sacristy after mass in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Melbourne.
“‘He proceeded to remove his robes so to expose his penis,’ Mr Gibson said in his opening address of the first trial… Mr Gibson told how Pell forced the boy into oral sex and then did the same with the other choirboy.”

It's about time they held someone to account. I mean someone who "matters". I was honestly flabbergasted that someone of this guy's rank even faced trial at all.

I'm happy they got this scumbag
But, if the church let him go this easy, something's up I would think since they protect lesser members pretty regularly

They’ve been covering all of it, it’s one of their favorite stories. It’s on NewsHour literally every night.

Well, this story is about an Australian in Australia. Our news outlets aren’t well versed in that. They’ve been covering the shite out of the council currently going on in the Vatican.

Yes. It's pretty crazy that he went down, if you ask me. This has been a huge problem for a long time. Before now everything has always been swept under the rug.

They take care of their own.My brother was killed in a car wreck in 1972 by a drunk priest.
They hid him from prosecution til my folks ran out of money to try to bring him to trial. They never were able to see him in court even though they drove to San Antonio,Texas where the wreck occurred.
Last we heard they had shifted him to California.
My parents weren't trying to get anything but some closure. They never even got an apology.
The Catholic clan are now reaping what they've sewn.I'm not unhappy about it....

I'm sorry to hear about your brother, man. Nobody should ever be shielded from the law like that.
In related news, Nebraska's DOJ has issued supeonas for "hundreds" of Catholic churches.
