You are asking the wrong question as lose denotes lost when reality is more like hiding from you.

That last sock will hide inside something else in the dryer to avoid getting put back on your feet and the hope of eventual freedom where it releases from its hiding place after a successful dryer escape. Sadly, freedom is short lived as you dog promptly finds it and chews it up outside as penalty for the rebellion.

In the future look in other clothes and finding that sock before it is allowed to go "missing"
