Let’s assume this is true. I can see some horrifying implications. “Existing” as a disembodied and / or fragmented consciousness through eternity? How would those quanta of consciousness receive sensory inputs?

This is kinda hard to put into words, but you don't receive any sensory input other than that which you WANT to receive. The "consciousness" field is the field (near as I can tell) that connects all things. So your awareness of things only goes so far as you direct it.
