I disagree, I think there are many other ways we can force them to be productive members of society. Of course, even operating under the assumption that they have something wrong in their minds that forces them to do it -- there have been cases of men who have the urges but never follow through on them, so I think most of us can come to a harmonious conclusion that the moment they act on their thoughts then they deserve to be punished proportionally.

There are countless studies we could run on them -- life saving medication, what happens to the body in certain environments, even having them perform dangerous labor amongst themselves.

I understand that this may fall into the category of 'cruel and unusual' punishment HOWEVER. If our prison system puts these at-risk inmates in housing just to be murdered in a a cruel and unusual manner, what difference does it make if we...perhaps study them? Forcibly harvest organs, extraction of stem cells. The list goes on and on!!

Of course, we limit it only to murderers, pedophiles and other crimes such as kidnapping.

What's great is that you don't even waste money on the inmates. In fact, with the organs the prison system could even gain money.
