You know, he could have played upperclassmen and probably did a little better this year with them, but he isn't coaching for this year. He wants those young guys as experienced as possible. I've seen flashes of what you're talking about on D but we are threadbare at LB (JJ Peterson not getting cleared before the season started hurt) and on the d-line and it will be worse in terms of depth next year. But what I've seen from our young corners/dbs is impressive and I absolutely love the way he calls defense. Even with our shitty roster you can see the outlines of what our D will be like in the future.
I'll say this too, I expected an absolute disaster on D given that we were switching from 4-3 to 3-4 but given what he's had to work with it's actually been pretty seamless. Our D can't stop the run at all but they are visibly better than last year.
