Yep. That first offer from them is probably only going to be enough money to grab something to eat from Sonic.

We’ve lost 2 in 2 years to rear end accidents. Both times the FINAL offer was about 90% of what a comparable vehicle would cost to replace.....initial offers were about 85%. neither time was there a lawyer who could do anything because luckily we weren’t injured. The property loss is basically cut and dry.....your vehicle is worth what the insurance company says it is, regardless of what it will cost to replace it. You can counter but they have a couple of years to settle by statute as long as they are attempting to do so in good faith. Meanwhile you gotta have a vehicle. They won’t pay
for a rental for long.....as soon as you counter they are out on the rental....they’ve fulfilled their obligation on that front. They will also immediately pay the lien holder about 70% of what they are going to pay as a sign of good faith....and you won’t even know they’ve done it until you make a payment and notice the payoff is less. So here you are without a vehicle, facing uncertainty as to what’s going to happen, and you go out to buy a car
cause you gotta get to work and damn if even your good credit don’t result in a higher
interest rate because you got two or more vehicle loans now! It’s a rare occurrence for anyone to be whole after an auto accident....if you and yours can walk away afterwards and it doesn’t cost you more than a couple of thousand out of pocket you’ve gotten by fairly clean......
