I left for awhile cause off season ismy time to refresh and get away from all boards. Now it's time to goooooo.
I'm feeling excited. I know I came off negative during Mac, but it was because I thought he wasn't even remotely good as a coach.
Dan I trust in. His work at State is impressive. Simple as that. He knows this place. Knows how to win here. Time to believe. So much negative nonsense before he has coached a game. His finish last year in recruiting was very good. Considering we now battle Richt at Miami and Smart at Georgia, he did a pretty good job. So let the class play out before dismissing it. If by the end of the year it's still blah, then yes I'm aboard the worried as freak train.
As for Frank's. Mullen is one of the best QB minds in CFB. Simple as that. How about trusting him instead of being idiots thinking you know more than him about a position he is one of the best at developing. Jesus.
Our rbs are loaded. A lot of outside skill. Now we have a coach who knows how to get the ball to playmakers. This should be an exciting growing year.
I think we finish 8-4. Loses to Georgia, FSU sadly, surprise loss and USC. Considering our QB roster is awful and positions on defense leave a ton to be desired.. that's not a bad year if it happens. Either way. I'll be there Saturday drunk af. Let's put 70 on them.

Excited not to suck as well. I hope we get back to being a good running team. I miss that most about the Tebow era. Not all the passing, just the Shredding they could give people on the ground.

If you guys don't want to talk Quarterbacks, don't talk Quarterbacks. If your incredibly nuanced opinion is "I trust Mullen", we get it. I don't know why the guys who most want to talk Quarterbacks are the least complex in their viewpoint and need to reassure everyone how little they care about it.
All I want to see this year is an offense that works, even if it's run heavy, even if we're only throwing 10 - 15 times a game. As long as we protect the ball and let our incredibly deep stable of backs pop off, I'll be happy.

We finished 75th in the country in rushing and that's a losers stat. We need to be insde the top 15 and I think we just might do it. Fix the awful special teams from last year and give Franks play calls that help him...we have the WRs to rip a game open.
I see 10 wins with my O&B glasses and maybe...just maybe 11 wins. UGA will falter with only 3 starters back on defense, the girls school is down, USC & Mizz both come to the Swamp, MSU is a big hurdle and I expect UT to give us a good fight at Neyland to get revenge for last minute loss from last year.
Tough games away: UT, Moo State, Girls school
Neutral: UGA
Easy game away: Vandy
Home cooking: UK, LSU, Mizzou & USC.
I see 8 wins with OOC cupcakes and add at least 1 more with either Mizzou or USC...that's 9 wins. Beat UGA and we will have 10 wins. Beat both UT & Moo State and we could be off to the races...but I wouldn't bet on MSU as a win....we have never done that well there in ages.

9 - 10 wins should be what's attained if Mullen is a good coach.
8 is if we have bad luck -- unlucky bounces, we don't show up to a game, lose a tough one.
7 and below: Mullen ain't the guy, and we're in serious trouble.

I would guarantee a competent offense. Mullen isn't as conservative as Champ nor as stubborn when it doesn't work as Mac.
He may over use players some. We may get frustrated with QB runs. But he is very Adept offensively so I think he will get what we can get from this group. Solid backs, good play makers but average line and bad QB roster. So I don't expect 2008 offense. 2006 though..may be possible. Sure we don't have Leak or Tebow. But we have better running backs no question to help the offense move.
As for QBs. It really is simple for me. Dan is someone I trust to make the best decision at QB. So I won't question what he does at that position. He has earned that faith, it's not just "he coaches UF so is right". It's viewing his history and seeing how good he is at this part of the job. As well as our QB coach who is also incredibly intelligent.

OL needs to be monsters. I remember Bama coming to the Swamp in 2011 and the Bama OL looked like vending machines.
We have some dudes on the OL...Fred Johnson is 6'7" and probably 340, been playing and starting off and on since Macs first year. His footwork isn't the quickest and that's why he is at RG.
OL & DL are two of the biggest components to be successful, you can have Aaron Rodgers at QB and if the OL isn't solid he will be limited. Third and longs are a recipe for an L. And starting field position from special teams has to drastically improve.
To me it isn't boring watching handoffs and getting five yds on first down. Run again for three yds and then you have 3rd and two yds with run/pass options. Punting the ball inside the twenty isn't boring. Having your opponent start four possessions inside their twenty yd line greatly increases your chances to win. SEC games are usually hand to hand combat, UK, UT and Vandy wont roll over.
Tomorrow nights game is interesting to me to watch special teams and see how quickly the coverage unit gets downfield and how they block on returns.

Straws, before you jump to conclusions..just remember Saban's first year at Bama...they lost to Louisiana Monroe and I think finished 7-5....and of course the peanut gallery wanted him gone...funny huh?
None of us are going to be happy with 7-5 or 6-6, but we have to give him time...not long mind you
I myself don't think we have to worry about that. The cupboard is far from bare.
Actually Mac inherited a mess with a OL that didn't have experienced depth or starters. He had to used true frosh and a transfer from Fordham. There was talent at other positions. He did manage to win the east division twice when the east was down.

Alabama was on NCAA violations when he arrived, so you can just screw right on off with those pre-season excuses.
We have 19 players with SEC experience returning as starters, their likely backups have SEC experience with a coaching staff that doesn't have more than maybe a couple of boys without SEC experience.
No excuses.
We could have won 7 - 8 games last year, with decent QB play we could have won 9. You're never ever going to sell me on 7 wins with a better team and an upgraded coaching staff.

Saban went 7-6 his first year at Bama. So first year is not the year you judge but record. That's not how you judge a first year.
First year you judge on progress. Are freshman better by end of year? Do players seem worse or better overall? Do we see improvement in discipline, stupid mistakes, better play calling.
That's what important this year. Record matters but only so much. We must change the environment.
Now not making a bowl would be scary bad. But that shouldn't happen. Mullen can bowl at Miss State in the dominate West, he will at UF in a weak east.
I want to see a team that I come away thinking...they are well coached.
If that happens. The future will be bright.

As usual Straws you are slightly mistaken, Bama was given probation for the previous staff violations after Saban was hired. Bama had 18 starters in 2007 and actually I was wrong, Saban didn't go 7-5, it was 6-6 (and 7-6 with bowl win against a nobody) big feller. Those six wins included several cupcakes. He also I believe lost his last four regular games.
Of course Saban is a great coach...but he did go 6-6 his first year...which was my point...and you are declaring prematurely that Mullen isn't the coach for us if we only win 7 games. Of course NO ONE would like 7-5 including myself. He would be on a mild hot seat and if he wins a lot of games in 2019 all would be forgotten.
I myself didn't necessarily want Mullen as HC, but he has shown me he can instill enthusiasm and excitement, so I am all aboard. Theres still room for you on the bandwagon Straws, but I know you resent him for starting Franks. And please don't go to game threads and bash Franks for an incompletion...people are going to laugh at you Straws. You don't have a Franks voodoo doll?

Smart went 8-5 at Georgia.
How'd his second year go?
First year is a build year. Everyone knows this. You have an entirely new system on both sides of the ball. Your players are from a different coach recruited for different styles. It's going to have some growing pains. This team has some serious issues to grow through. Just by position
QB - Worst in Sec possibly. But a future possible stud. With the staff teaching him I have faith in Em long term becoming dynamic
Rb - straight nasty. Davis is a future pro as is Scarlett
Te - weak
Oline - average but not sure awful
WR- Loaded with talent
DE/OLB - Loaded
Dt - very average
Mlb - Average. David is solid but has some issues. Not near someone like Spikes level.
CB - Best in the Sec
Safety - Ehh..
Special teams - Wait and see but not likely amazing
We have some really strong units, and some units not up to UFs level. Issue is. Those weaknesses will cost games. There is no one year fix. It's a process. Mullen needs a year to get the culture of UF in his image. Year two. That's when we start questions if the product still looks bad.

Except the difference here is that Smart inherited an admittedly young team as a NEW frickING HEAD COACH.
You guys are making some terrible excuses, and it's fine, but Mullen has 9 years of HC experience and inherited a team returning 19 starters. Whether or not they were good doesn't matter, they have experience.
You guys are driving me crazy with these super false analogies.

No, they didn't. They went 2- 6 big feller because of vacated wins. Because they were on violations.

Are you drunk? Franks won't finish the year, and I've said 9 - 3 since before Franks was elected to start. Want the proof?

I get called a pumper all Summer and in Fall I'm called pessimistic.
9 - 3, 8 - 4 with a close loss.
If we finish 7 - 5, 6 - 6, we're f u c k e d.
That means Mullen isn't nearly the coach we thought he was, and that I'm predicting 9 - 3 means that I think a lot of the team.
I'm just not going to jump into this "7 wins and looking better is okay narf" tard orgy.
