I thought McElwain was good coach with potential but was a horrible fit at Florida. He was a west coast guy who wasn't a dynamic recruiter. While he was doing good things at Colorado State, he needed time to get seasoning and even then he probably was never cut out for life in the SEC. He would've had a lot more success at a Pac-10 school.

Florida is the kind of like Alabama and other top tier jobs in that you can't afford to hire someone who needs on the job training. They have to come in and be able to hit the ground running. They have to be ready for life in the fish bowl and capable of surviving the kife fight that is SEC recruiting. McElwain was none of that. With the resources Florida has, I didn't understand why they shelled out so much for McElwain.

Oddly enough, I think his reaction to the shark photo was really revealing. Someone who is secure in themselves either has fun with that or doesn't even give it the time of day. McElwain got angry over it to the point where I went from thinking it wasn't him to thinking "Wait, why is he being so defensive about this?"
