Is fan disappointment or apathy overrated?
I think pissed off fans have led to the firing of coaches and athletic directors. Look at how Tennessee influenced their coaching search.
If fans can impact decisions then you have to say that fan support is important.
You will always have the outlier schools like Miami football or Florida baseball where they are located in a hotbed of talent and can sell location but most schools are going to have to use fan support in a pitch some sort of way to get recruits.
You can wake up 10 minutes late and avoid a head on collision on the way to work. Just happens to be that way.
