I'm seeking information about the 1st Battalion/ 3rd Marines Bravo Company. Specifically an incident that happened May 25th, 1969 during Operation Virginia Ridge.
I've found a good bit of info, but I would really like to track down and talk to somebody that may have been there or have first hand info. I'm not sure exactly how to go about doing that, so if anybody could point me in the right direction I would be grateful.
TIA

If you are looking for Combat Marines who served in that unit during that period of time, I would begin to canvass the VFW and VVA, other veteran organizations maybe helpful as well. Next resource would be a VA hospital and such.
Marines nationwide have a formal attire ball to celebrate the birth of the Marine Corp. These are public events in most cases, you certainly will likely find some there.
I served April 70 to May 71 US Army

You know many military organizations have informal "alumni" groups. Have you checked the Battalion's Facebook page? You might find some folks there that could help you.

I actually haven't checked facebook yet. I only just started this research last night after a conversation with my dad about my Uncle who died in the incident I mentioned.
After that I stumbled on an old post from 2011 on a military message board because it mentioned my uncle by name. The thread was by a guy who was in my uncle's unit and there the day he died, and his post said the official version of events told to families, that they were killed in a mortar attack by NVA, was bullshite and the whole thing was a terrible accident caused by the incompetence of higher ups that set off their own cache of mortars inside their camp resulting in 13 KIA, 29 WIA, and 2 MIA.
So that's what started this search for me. Always been fascinated by my uncles story anyway, growing up seeing his pictures around the house.
I appreciate you and Mulat's suggestions. The next step I want to take is to try and find somebody who served with him and try to find out more about his final days. So y'alls ideas will definitely help with that, thank y'all

I hope you find what you are looking for. My father did two tours in Vietnam, leaving for the second one just two hours after I was born, and I know he had very close ties to the people he served with over there. There is a good chance that there are folks out there that can help you.
As in any conflict you will find there are some times that folks... well copulated with the canine and messed up big time. I hope that whatever you find gives you and your family some closure on that terrible event.

Wow, I don't even have a kid and I can't imagine how difficult that would be for a father. Not knowing if you'd get to see your kid again. That's scary.
And thank you for the kind words
