Only because you had a lackluster OC who didn't know how to use Hurts. Tua is the better QB - no doubt in my mind but he would never have been needed with Bama's talent had your OC shown even a modicum of creativity. He was too straitlaced and didn't do a good job of maximizing strengths and minimizing weaknesses.
With a half-way decent OC, Bama could use grandma as a QB and win a Natty.

Eh, Jalen had lost all ability to read a defense and throw by the end of last season (and he never had a giant ability to do that as it was).
We had guys running free wide open for large chunks of the season on 2nd/3rd options that the QB just never saw.
DaBoll wasn't great, and I do agree we didn't play enough to Jalen's strengths, but his passing ability was not going to win that national title game no matter who was scheming things up.
