What level did you play at? I played at a fairly high level and we did indeed do high reps to increase muscle stamina. Granted it was a long time ago, and things, I'm sure have changed a bit, but to say doing high reps does nothing for muscle fatigue is at best ill informed.
Not only does it help with muscle fatigue but it builds muscle.

I wasn't contesting the muscle endurance statement. I was specifically contesting the priority of bench press training for a football player.
