Bama was #2 going into the final week of the regular season. However Oklahoma beat Nebraska like they stole something and leaped Bama. Would there have been any desire for an OU\UT rematch again in the Cotton Bowl?

Bama not only needed juggernaut OU to fumble 11 times (losing 7) in a 17-14 loss to Nebraska, but the needed Nebraska to lose the next week. Inexplicably Nebraska did losing to Mizzou 35-31 and keeping the Orange Bowl from hosting the National Championship. PSU had already decided to go to Miami if the Huskers won. Nebraska was so enraged by the defeat they proceeded to beat Mizzou 25 years in a row. Hint:LSU

Bama vs OSU (even sans Woody) would have been a hell of a game. Bama took lower ranked Arkansas over undefeated- and at that time relatively unknown FSU. It paid off after USC defeated #1 in a classic Rose Bowl.
