I don't think it's irrelevant. A strong tradition is easier to build on than a base without that.

The Bryant Museum, even, offers a tangible thing with which recruits can and do relate. In this super competitive college football world any advantage, to whatever degree it may be, is good.

Personally, I think the relevant tradition more or less starts with the era when Alabama and the SEC integrated. Before that time, many of the best players in the nation and even our own state couldn't play at Alabama. Hell, a few years before that they couldn't even attend SEC schools. Nevermind that, as I'm tending off toward a rant.

Anyway, tradition is relevant. Not so much as how many players are in the NFL right now, or how many highlights were on ESPN this year, or 5 titles in 9 years, but still, it is relevant.
