The way it read, though, was your President brought it up. Why would he do that if he didn't know the particulars? You would think he would be very familiar with the contract of the highest paid employee at his University.
Bad look for him to bring something up when he doesn't know the details.

After rereading the article, he might not have brought it up. It doesn't make it clear, but I am guessing he was asked about it.

I think one of our beat writers talked to him at the press conference so it wasn't really an announcement. OP did a poor job providing the details ITT.
