It's not mystifying at all. Anderson was an undependable headcase for his first two or three years on campus. Devall wasn't as talented but he could be depended on to do his job. Anderson finally figured it out and was a great player obviously.

Yeah didn’t Anderson get sent home from a Natty game for partying or something? The veterans voted to do it if I recall correctly. He was in the doghouse yo.

Not at all true. He was a head case as a true freshman (getting sent home from the bowl game), but straightened up after that. His position coach (Fun Pants Lance) didn't like him because he had short arms. He was a much better player than Devall by his 3rd year in the program, but Lance didn't want to play him, so Bama didn't. Once Lupoi took over as position coach, he ended that foolishness quickly. Short arms, indeed...

He was just fine in run support by year 3 and was a beast rushing the passer already.
