The game was 10-7 at half time. If a change like this is to occur, you need a halftime break for everyone to go over their plan and be sure all understand their responsibilities. I imagine that Saban thought that Jalen & Co. could still win the game at halftime.

And 90 seconds in to the second half, Bama had a 14-10 lead and over 200 yards of offense. The wheels didn't fall off until Bama turned it over at the Auburn 12 when down 20-14 and came away with 0 points.

I don't think there's any doubt they thought Bama could win the game.
